My Angel Jack

Down Syndrome Awareness

Through a lot of trial and error, I believe I have compiled a list of the very BEST resources out there with regards to DS Awareness, Resources, and Support, and Information.

Down Syndrome Resources and Support

  • When Jack was first diagnosed, I googled Down Syndrome.  One of the first places I found was DownSyn, an amazing online support group filled with encouragement and hope.  Once I found it, I never left.  I strongly encourage new and expecting parents to stop by and take a peek.
  • The National Down Syndrome Congress has current information on Down Syndrome.  They also put on the National DS Convention every year.
  • Every year, we celebrate our son and raise money for DS Awareness, The National Down Syndrome Society,  and our local DS Association at our Buddy Walk.  To find a walk near you, click here.
  • Exciting research is going on at Stanford and The University of Colorado to significantly improve cognition for individuals with Down syndrome.  The Down Syndrome Research and Treatment Foundation raises funds for these promising research projects.  They need our help to keep these going.  To learn more, click here.
  • For new an expecting parents, please get yourselves a copy of the book GIFTS: Mothers Reflect on How Children With Down Syndrome Enrich Their Lives.  “Through Gifts we hear the powerful voices of mothers who said ‘yes’ when others might have been saying ‘no.’ These mothers take us on their journey filled with wonder, courage, and the belief that children with Down syndrome can and will succeed.” --Brian G. Skotko, M.D., M.P.P., Children's Hospital Boston and Boston Medical Center Author, Common Threads: Celebrating Life with Down Syndrome
  • In many states, our kids qualify for a Medi-Cal waiver that acts as a secondary insurance.  This allows our kids to receive Medi-Cal REGARDLESS of income.  For info in California, call your Regional Center service coordinator.
